Rosario Cryo 2012
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, it is a great pleasure to invite you to the 49th meeting of the Society for Cryobiology, which will be held in Rosario, Argentina, from June 3rd to 6th, 2012.
CRYO-2012 will be the first important world forum in Latin America focusing on applied and fundamental aspects of cryobiology, low temperature science and engineering. Almost 52 years after the International Symposia on Cryobiology held in Buenos Aires in 1959(1), we will have the opportunity to present CRYO-2012, the 49th annual meeting of the Society for Cryobiology.

In this opportunity, we choose as Meeting main themes to be discussed in Plenary Lectures, Specialist Symposia, Focused Scientific Sessions and Poster Presentations covering several aspects, in especial:
Situated in the Province of Santa Fe, Rosario is 300 km away from the Federal District of Argentina. It is one of the main cities of the country since it is located in a strategic place regarding the MERCOSUR (Southern Common Market) and this fact places it in an important industrial and tourist level.
Rosario City borders on the Paraná River to the East where boats with important draught arrive since its navigability conditions are great. To the North and South, it borders respectively on the Ludueña and Saladillo Streams, which also cross the city from west to east.
The relief of this area is an undulating plain and the climate is pleasant with average maximum temperatures of 24º C and average minimum temperatures of 12º C. With 1,000,000 population and a modern urban development, one can tour the city within minutes and also, in a matter of minutes, one can cross to the sandbanks of the vast Alto Delta of the Paraná River (that’s why in Guaraní, the original native’s language, Paraná means “relative of the sea”).
Its shopping malls are among the best in Latin America. Its hotels and gastronomy are ever-growing and offer good choices to please all kinds of demands and pockets. They offer delicious typical dishes made of river fish as well as the best of Argentina and international cuisine.
Its airport receives flights from several parts of Argentina, Brazil, Peru and eventually, from Chile. And it enjoys excellent road connections with the rest of the country. Further information
We are a group working since many years in hypothermic preservation questions, and we have been invited to be part of the UNESCO Chair in Cryobiology. In the diffusion of the activities of cryobiology UNESCO CHAIR we organized three intensive workshops for the diffusion and discussion of several subjects in Cryobiology. During those workshops, we had the chance to invite and share experiences with some of your members in the Society, like Professors Barry Fuller, Andreas Sputtek and Locksley McGann, a very nice experience, at least for us. We think that those workshops were the “invitation card” for the possibility to organize the next meeting for the Society for Cryobiology.
Thus, I am confident that the charm of my city and the Paraná River will be a trend setter for the future of Cryobiologist!
I hope you will join us for a reunion of outstanding science and take a little extra time to enjoy the spectacular and unique beauty of Rosario in particular and Argentina in general! I am looking forward to meeting you!
With my best wishes,
Joaquin V. Rodriguez
